Children’s Village of Hampton Roads
About Us
The Children’s Village of Hampton Roads was founded by Jayne Di Vincenzo and Jeffrey Martinovich in 2005. Through experiences as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused & neglected children in the court system, Jayne saw first-hand some of the ways children in foster care can be overlooked: - Very little, if any, visitation or access to siblings - Limited access to medical/dental care - Lack of involvement in recreation, the arts and cultural and confidence building activities - Slow moving legal process with delays and postponements that can stretch into years - Shuffling of children from home to home as their placements fell through >- Difficulty of children’s court-appointed guardians, social workers and other care providers to visit children and check on them. This can stretch out for months. And, in some cases, children have never met their court-appointed attorneys who represent their needs and wishes in court. - Placement with low-income households, many with a single adult, with little in the way of space for play, toys and appropriate dietary options.CHHR– More about our beginnings
In 2005, The Children’s Village of Hampton Roads was granted non-profit status by the IRS. In 2006, Jeff Martinovich ensured a substantial financial commitment of $250,000. In 2007 CHHR was the recipient of a donation from The Peace Frogs Bank to Bank River Swim and has expanded its board, built a web presence and grown our team of volunteers.Currently, CHHR is seeking a parcel of land and/or a building, to begin ground-breaking on. If you or someone you know would like information on how to receive a charitable tax-deduction for donating a building or land, please contact us at (757) 952-1809 or email: jayned@hrchildren.org.
